School gardens

children gardeningWhy not grow vegetables, herbs and fruit in school, using organic principles? It is an excellent way to learn how plants grow and where food comes from. You can eat the results, too.

All the information you need to start an organic garden is available from Garden Organic for Schools. Some of the pupil leaflets are available in Welsh (see Learning Zone). Photo (right) copyright Garden Organic.

In addition, a number of organizations around Wales can offer help with gardening in schools. Although not necessarily certified organic, most of them use organic methods. Look for links below or contact the Federation of City Farms and Community Gardens.
